Low Cholesterol Can be Dangerous for Your Health
Often we heard of how dangerous high cholesterol level can be. Your doctor might have to warn you few times on how you should lower your cholesterol level by watching what you eat, do regular exercise et cetera. It’s true, high cholesterol is extremely risky for your health, especially in a long term, since it can lead to severe health problems such like heart disease and strokes, which can be fatal. However, there are solutions and ways on how you can reduce high cholesterol level, to a certain level.
It seems people have been thinking that the lower cholesterol one has, the better it is. But unfortunately, that statement is not entirely accurate. If you’re having high cholesterol problem, it is a must for you to reduce the level but not to the extent of having low cholesterol level. Actually, you just have to reduce it and maintain your cholesterol at the normal level. The ideal normal level of your total cholesterol should be around 180-200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) with your LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, the so-called ‘bad’ cholesterol, below 100 mg/dL. Anything lower than 160 mg/dL is considered abnormally low and actions should be taken to rectify the problem.
Basically, we need cholesterol in our body for vital functions such as maintaining cell membranes, aiding in the manufacturing of bile; of which helps in digesting fats, helping the skin converting sunshine to Vitamin D and production of sex hormones. It’s also essential in metabolizing fat soluble Vitamins (A, D, E and K)
.
Too low cholesterol symptoms:-
i. Depression
When you are suffering from a recurrent depression, which you can identified not due to any stressful condition, it might be that you’re having low cholesterol level. It’s better to have yourself check by a professional. The probability seems to be higher if you’re in a strict diet and experiencing a malnutrition problem. This is probably due to the fact that low cholesterol may reduce the levels of serotonin in the brain.
ii. Hemorrhagic strokes
People with cholesterol level way below the normal rate are four times more likely to get hemorrhagic strokes. By having your cholesterol level below 150 mg/dL, you are exposing yourself to cerebral hemorrhagic, which is deadly since it can cause instant death.
iii. Premature birth
Studies showed that women who have low cholesterol level are more likely to deliver premature babies and babies who have low birth weights. Logically, when you’re expecting, you need all the nutrition that you can get and that include fats as well. Going on a strict diet during pregnancy is a very bad idea.
iv. Increase risk of breast cancer
When trying to get some cholesterol into your system, you should consider taking in more of the high-density lipoprotein (HDL), which is the ‘good’ cholesterol. Since it counts up as part of the total cholesterol to boot. If you’re have excess weight and low of HDL can increase your risk of breast cancer.
Low cholesterol level too can indicate that a person is experiencing certain health problem that he or she didn’t notice in the first place. You will find that hypocholesterolemia, liver disease, malabsorption, celiac disease, malnutrition, poor digestive system, hyperthyroidism, manganese deficiency and rare genetic diseases such as abetalipoproteinemia and Hypobetaliapoproteinemia could one of the many factors that will cause you to have too low cholesterol. Elderly people especially, should only be mindful of high cholesterol level, but also low cholesterol level. This group of people is seemingly much more vulnerable to this health problem. Improper usage of medications, which were used in treating high cholesterol level can also contribute to low cholesterol level. Take heed to only take medicine according to your prescription and no more, no less.

I had bypass surgery 2-9-06 and my cardiologist put me on Tropol 12.5 mg,
Amlodipine 5MG and Crestor 10 mg.
My Cholestorol is now 106 (from 188 before surgery) and LDL is 40 (124 before surgery). It sounds like from this article I ought to cut out the Crestor. What do you think?

Hello Ray.
By right I’m really in no position to advise you on this. But I have few basic knowledge on the issue. CRESTOR is a synthetic lipid lowering agent for oral administration which meant to help a sufferer of high cholesterol to lower down their cholesterol level. I assumed from the surgery you had described above telling me that you might have high blood pressure and cholesterol level, weight issues and heart problem.
Even though from the article wrote on how dangerous low blood pressure can be, it was also something meant for a normal person who had never before undergo a surgery. Therefore, it is best to follow on your medication as described by your physician.
However, when it comes to medication of High blood pressure, they are actually a wide choice of medicine depending on the individual’s body. if you feel that your current medication is making you feel very uncomfortable, causing severe side effects and other side effects of low cholesterol like being highly susceptible to depression and tension – it is best that you consult your physician again to see if you need to change on your medication. 10mg of Crestor is usually recommended for a person on the start of their cholesterol therapy.
Your HDL now is at a desirable state but never let go below 50 and your LDL at the optimal state.
