Inexpensive Ways for Healthy Meals
Somehow, the people of today are much more concern about eating healthy and nutritious food from those who lives before them, regardless of many claims of individuals in this modern times practicing bad eating habits. Partially, the modern hectic and demanding lifestyle is pretty much the blame. People are having less time at home to prepare good and healthy meals, and the rising standard of living that shows more people are trying to making ends meet are some of the main hindrances for people to actually able to place more priority to healthy eating style and habits.
What can you say? Sometimes it’s ironic to find fast food meals much cheaper than healthy meals, like a nutritious whole grain turkey breast sandwich with low fat cheese and mayonnaise and fresh garden salad. Even the fast food portions are bigger and able to fill you up more. It is a perplexing issue of wanting to eat healthy foods that are fulfilling, delicious and cheap at the same time.
However, there are ways to make healthy daily meals with less cost. The key lies at sneaking healthy elements into your meals and a few other things that are excellent in order to get more nutrition, and obviously, it is better to make them on your own, rather than buying it out from diners. It will be cheaper, and it’s good to know what is being use to make the meals. Hoorah to home cooking!
Vegetables and fruits are easy to get, cheaper at most times and easier to prepare. There is no better idea than adding extra servings of fruits and vegetables to your main meals to fill yourself up more. Both fruits and vegetables make great and healthy side dishes, while adding that extra fiber, vitamins and other nutrients to your meal. It is best to pick green vegetables and others like tomato, broccoli, carrots, cucumbers and capsicums for more colors to your meal. It is wise not to limit your list of vegetables. However, not all fruits are suitable to eat in extra quantity. Fruits such as banana and avocado should be avoided taken in large amount due to the amount of high carbohydrate and fat that they contain.
Whole grain breads and other whole grain baked goods can be rather expensive. Though it may sound a little cheapskate but some family stores and supermarket sell day old versions at a reduced price, which make it affordable to get. Oatmeal, low fat yogurts and grain cereals are good for the health too. Actually, by making your own pancakes rather than buying the easy mix, you can monitor the ingredients, making sure it’s low in fat and high in useful carbohydrates. You can top it with delicious fruits for more fiber and good carbs.
The greatest challenge is probably with lunch and dinner. Did you know that chili is great at increasing your metabolism and thus making weight loss possible? Then you should try cooking with chili and other spicy ingredients. Add lean beef, turkey or chicken into it and it will be a splendid meal. Adding beans and other legumes can be additional fiber and protein source for you and your family. From beef to legumes, they are all high fiber foods.
Fish is a great source of protein and good fat. Want to make it even healthier? You should try it steam and dip with homemade sauce and dips, rather than frying it. Even there are ways for picky eaters. Vegetable may not be a favorite for many people. You can try using veggie puree in sauces and in other meals to boost vitamin, mineral and other nutrient intake.
So you see, it is not that hard to eat inexpensively and most important healthily. What is expensive is not necessarily good and what is inexpensive is not necessarily bad. Spending some time to know your food and planning ahead of time can do wonders if you want a healthy meal, and perhaps next time you should consider home cooking more often. Plus, it should help shed of some of those calories intake, all those cooking effort and stuff. Cheers!
