Healthy Snack Recipes: Won Ton Clear Soup
It’s time for some oriental style healthy snack. Won ton soup is actually a very popular dish for the chinese community, where it is sometimes eaten alone in clear broth, with noodles or deep fry and dipped in special homemade sauce. It is often served as evening or late night snack, and sometimes during course meal too. Packed with seafood nutrition, this dish offers you a great source of minerals and vitamins with low calories as well!
Won Ton Clear Soup
This is obviously my version of a healthy won ton clear soup – with namely, less oil and with vegetable added. It is recommended to use fresh seafood to get the best sweet taste of the shrimp and crab, and that is why you don’t have to add anymore sugar into this recipe. This recipe serves four people. It is best served warm and right after it is done. It only take about 15-20 minutes of preparation. Give it a try!
.
Ingredients:-
- 125 g shelled shrimp, finely chopped
- 75 g cooked crab meat, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp chopped spring onions
- 1 small garlic clove, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 12 won ton skins
- 1 small egg, beaten
- 3 ½ cups fish stock
- 2 small tomatoes, cut into bite size
- Dash of chilli sauce
- Some salt and pepper for taste
For garnishing: -
- Some chopped spring onions
- Some fresh chili, thinly sliced
.
How to make / prepare Won Ton Clear Soup
- Mix the shrimp and crab meat together in a bowl.
Add salt and pepper for taste. - Heat the vegetable oil on a non-stick pan, wok or a large heavy bottom skillet until it is really hot.
- Stir fry the shrimp and crab meat mixture for about 1 minute. Add in the chopped spring onions and stir fry for another one minutes before removing the mixture from the heat. Let it cool completely.
- Spread out the won ton skins on the middle of your palm and spoon a little of the shrimp and crabmeat filling into the center of won ton skin. Brush the edges of the skin with beaten egg and press the edges together, scrunching them to form a “moneybag” lookalike shape.
- Do the same step as above to all of the skins and reserve while you are preparing the soup.
- Pour the stock into a large pan and bring to a boil. Add some chilli sauce to give it a little spicy taste before adding the won tons one by one. Cook for about 5 minutes.
- Now, add the cut tomatoes and boil for another minute.
- Spoon into warmed bowls and garnish with the sliced chilli and extra spring onions.
