Get Enough Vitamin C with Papaya – And Other Benefits



Never listen when you are told not to eat papaya at all in order to lose weight, and especially when you are all healthy, young and active. It coincidentally happen when a person went to a slimming center and were told to avoid fattening fruits such as papaya, avocado etc once and for all but it’s perfectly okay to eat chicken. This is anything but a misleading fact. Of course, you should not be consuming lots of fattening foods, and that includes certain fruits like papaya and avocado, but comparing the fat content of a slice or two of papaya to a chicken dish is like comparing a man to a woman physically.

The history of papaya dated back in the 15th century. It is probably a native fruit to Central America but later, within the period mentioned, it was brought by the Spanish for plantation into their Pacific colonies and from there, it gain excess into India and further expand to the south. A ripe papaya can be very sweet, with rather musky taste and looks sort of like a melon in shape.

B vitamins, beta carotene (Vitamin A), vitamin C, amino acids, calcium, iron, proteolytic enzymes (papain), arginine, carpain and fibrin. However, some of the enzymes are lost as the fruit ripens.

  • The existence of proteolytic enzymes such as papain in papaya greatly helps in digestion and aid constipation. These enzymes too enable the digestion of protein and breaking down animal fibers that we consumed and have it digested.
  • Papaya has a high concentration of Vitamin C, some say that a slice is even triple of the content of an orange. Due to this fact, it has an excellent amount of bleaching properties and antioxidant for fighting against free radicals which. Yes, it consequently means that it is great for your skin and it really assist in controlling premature ageing.
  • Meanwhile, beta-carotene that exists in a papaya has been known through many conducted researches worldwide as an agent that helps in the prevention and treatment of cancer.
  • Arginine in papaya is known to be essential for male fertility while carpain, which exist in papaya too is said to be good for the heart. The fibrin is also plays an important role in the blood clotting process.

It is possible for you to make your own papaya spa cleanser or mask to improve your skin’s condition. Most homemade papaya mask are mixed together with lemon extract, honey, egg white or blended cucumber. When you are choosing papaya at the groceries, look for the ones with yellow ring at the stalk. This shows that the fruit will ripen well when its kept at room temperature. If its green, it won’t ripe well. A ripe papaya will smell very sweet and the flesh should be soft to spoon out.
